A baby name should: a) sound agreeable and fit well with ‘Thomas’ b) have a good meaning c) be shared by someone in history who did something admirable d) not be poisoned by either Anna or I going to school with a scoundrel who shared that name e) not be shared by any of our close friends children f) possibly incorporate grand parents or great-grandparents names.
All this means our kids will probably have to wait until they’re 28 days old before we’re forced, by law, to name them.
We’ve just finished an ante-natal class with a bunch of people having one baby and most of them know the gender…..what a cinch!
Two boys would require 4 names and two girls another 4 names. We’ve got one boys name ready to go (secret squirrel). We’ve only got 7 more to think of! Anna said I should ask for suggestions. Post yours, anonymously.

If Boy Leon
If Girl Sarah
Hmmm, it'll be quite a task thinking up so many names!
Careful that none of the names are paired in the Bible (Isaac & Rebekah... Abraham & Sarah, etc ;)
maybe these won't fit all the criteria ... but for what it's worth:
Hosanna - Biblical! Jesus Honoring. Unusal, but not so much that it'll be hard to use. Joyful.
Sophia / Sophie - means wisdom
Tabitha - Acts 9:39-40
Talitha - little girl (Mark 5:41)
Some Celtic names are quite lovely and may put a twist on a grandparent's name: (e.g. Hamish instead of James... )
William - so many good ways to shorten it: Liam, Will, Billy...
-----------
Inspired by resurrection: Anastasia
Inspired by Matrix: Trinity
Inspired by Seinfeld: Seven
Katherine (in all its forms) is another versatile name: Kate, Katie, Kathy, Cat - purity
Kara - joy, brightness, light (Greek)
Olivia - of the olive tree =) (Greek)
Jonathan - gift from God (Hebrew)
Timothy - Honor of God (Greek)
Jemimah - Dove (Hebrew)
Caleb - "dog; hence loyal" (! says my dictionary) Hebrew
--------------
Names which mean 'Consecrated to God':
Elissa
Elizabeth
Isabel (also Belle, Bella - which means Beautiful)
Anything with "El-" in it may have something to do with God (Hebrew)
Something that is easy to say and spell!!
Well, since you have asked....!!!!
Here are some thoughts...
Hugh - perhaps would make a good middle name, is both Anna's maiden name (almost) and the name of Matt's great-grandfather (Harvey). Meaning - intelligent heart & mind
William (love it shortened to Will) and is the name of two of Matt's great grandfathers (Markham & Thomas).
Meaning - desire to protect
Jeremiah - chosen of God
Josiah - God will protect
Isaac - laughter, God smiles
Isaiah - God is generous (hmm -fits with TWO babies!!!)
Harry & John - Matt's grandfathers
Now what about little girls.....
Great gandmothers:
Annie - gracious
Charlotte - strong & courageous
Also love:
Hannah - Grace of God
Jemimah - dove of peace
Abigail - father's joy
Sophie - wisdom
Lucy - (remember her Matt?)
Timothy, Tabitha & Talitha are lovely names , but perhaps don't go well with Thomas.
That's about it for me!! Have fun!
Plenty to choose from!
BOYS:
Ronald (Ron)
Belvedere (Bel)
Bartholomew (Bart)
Kenneth (Ken)
Wilhelmus
Leith (The L-Meister)
Kenton (Ken)
Gigabyte (Gig)
Megabyte (Meg)
GIRLS:
Destiny
Candy
Angel
Cherry
Raven
Anastasia
Roxy
Houston
Porsche
Crystal
Thanks everyone for some great ideas - keep it coming! Matt's threatening Rupert and Oscar so we really need some help desparately! Given it's meaning, I can see that the next high level contender will be Caleb. Speaking of pairs in the Bible, we were considering Cain and Abel or Esau and Jacob... but then we thought maybe that wouldn't bode well for their future relationship.
Given Anna's home turf, perhaps Eppany Rae (spelling?) would be appropriate? Kath, Kim, Kel...
Please don't borrow names from countries (not even with fancy spellyng).
For you both to consider.
Alice - a princess, noble
Amy - beloved
Catherine - pure
Clara (Great grandmother) bright
Eliza
Emma -
Gabrielle - strength
Isabel - God hath sworn
Louisa - bold warrior
Lucy - born at break of day
Marjorie (Grandmother) - a pearl (and she was)
Merina Jane (Great grandmother)
Penelope (Penny) - a weaver
Prudence (Prue) - practically wise
Rachel
Ruth - beauty
Sophie - wisdom
Zara - sun rising
Now for a few for the boys
Adam - man
Alexander (Alex)- defender of men
Andrew - strong/manly
Christopher - belonging to Christ
Clark - learned man
Daniel - divine judge
Grant - a promise
James - a supplanter (Father and Great grandfathers)
Nathan - a gift,given
Peter - a rock
Philip - a lover of horses
Samuel- heard of God
Thomas - a twin (not a good idea)
Timothy - fearing God
William - defence, protector (prefer shortened to Will)
