It was a sad half an hour today when I discovered that The Bulletin was closing it's doors and Tim Blair, widely regarded as Australia's most popular blogger, has for now, stopped blogging.
Many years ago, between jobs, I used to love heading down to the North Fitzroy library once a week to read The Bulletin, Australia's oldest newspaper, which ironically Tim Blair used to contribute.
The Bulletin at 128 years old says it can't remain competitive "young readers deserted it for the internet, and long-time subscribers faded away — the sort of thing being experienced by current affairs magazines worldwide". An unfortunate fallout from the digital revolution - less high quality journalism, more information.
Happily, The Spectator at 180 years old hasn't been told about this worldwide meltdown for current affairs magazines. It continues to thrive. Subscribe!
