Dear Diary

Yesterday Anna, Sophie, Kate and I went straight from church to a get-together, primarily of Monash alumni, in a very trendy area of North London in what was probably the most spectacular apartment I've ever been inside.

I always find these gatherings - of bankers, academics, lawyers and diplomats more than a little intimidating - although less so now that I don't need to declare myself a used car salesman.

I was struck, by the realisation that just a few yeas ago (well, OK, almost 10 years ago!) we were rallying against the establishment and the three great evils of voluntary student unionism, John Howard and compulsory detention of boat people (*note to Gen Y - this was the moral crusade of my generation equivalent of today's anti-carbon campaign). Now here we were.........almost the establishment!
